Ulfhedinn — from úlfr (wolf) and heðinn (coat) — the wolf‑warriors of the Viking Age.
Our shield‑wolves are inspired directly by the carvings on the DR 286 runestone, dated c. 1010–1040. Once part of the eight‑stone Hunnestad Monument near Ystad in southern Sweden, it was one of the most impressive monuments of the Viking Age.

The monument was documented in the 1630s by Ole Worm, who sketched all eight stones , a century before the site was destroyed during the sweeping “modernisation” ordered by Swedish nobleman Eric Ruuth (1782–1786).
Today, four of the five surviving stones are preserved at Kulturen in Lund.
The design of DR 286 has been meticulously reconstructed by Danish artist Jonas Lau Markhussen, allowing us to bring these wolves back into battle once more.

Back in September, we took part in Ulfhedinn’s first Ringwood Carnival and came first in the evening procession, being awarded a £50 prize. As we’re not able to accept monetary prizes, we donated the amount on to another cause.

Events like the carnival remind us how important community spirit is. With the Yule season upon us, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the vital role that food banks and community fridges play in supporting our communities.

Join us for a special evening of delicious feasts, mythical tales and clashing steel before spending the night in our Viking Longhouse.

Upon arrival you will be given a tour of the Ancient Technology Centre before playing some historical games to break the ice and meet your fellow guests.
Members of the Vikings reenactment group will be on hand to showcase life a thousand years ago, with a chance to handle weapons and armour as well as see the kit they would take to a feast.

As the evening draws in you will be led inside the Longhouse, for a three-course meal cooked with Craig Brooks, the Saxon Forager and author of Eat Like a Viking. In between courses Craig will be on hand to talk to the guests about each dish, their inspiration, and the evidence available to us on Viking food and drink. Craig will also be on site butchering and preparing some of the food, so for those who arrive closer to 4pm may get a chance to watch and ask questions.
